Rare signature of influential American astronomer Edwin Hubble. Boldly signed in ink below his bust portrait, clipped from a newspaper and mounted to cardstock. In near fine condition with remnants of mounting at center verso. The piece measures 3.25 inches by 5 inches. American astronomer Edwin Hubble played a crucial role in establishing the fields of extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology and proved that many objects previously thought to be clouds of dust and gas and classified as "nebulae" were actually galaxies beyond the Milky Way. In 1929, he began observing the relationship between the distances to 24 extra-galactic nebulae and their radial velocities as determined from their redshifts and found a roughly linear relationship between the distances of the galaxies and their radial velocities, a discovery that later became known as Hubble's law.
