I, Elvis: Confessions of a Counterfeit King (Signed First Edition)

The acclaimed author of Stark Raving Elvis goes underground as an Elvis impersonator. Answering an editor's challenge, he agrees to fashion himself into an undercover Elvis, hit the road, perform, compete–and write a book about it. Right away he discovers that an impossible task he's set himself. Yet through trial and error (mostly error), research, practice, and the help of a diverse cast of characters–friends, aficianados, and master Elvises themselves–he slowly but steadily gains skills, even entertains the thought of winning the annual "Images of Elvis" World Elvis impersonator contest in Memphis. (Plot-spoiler: he doesn't.)

William McCranor Henderson is an American author whose writing has explored the mutual influences of popular culture and literature, and the dark side of celebrity. He is best known for his novels Stark Raving Elvis and I Killed Hemingway. Boston Magazine noted that his work displays "a real feel for the sad, ridiculous squalor in America, the tacky bars and beauty shops and motel swimming pools, the even cheaper dreams of the people who hang out at them. What Henderson does best, though, is transform the seedy into musical prose." According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, Henderson "has raided the pop-cult pantheon and managed the estimable feat of breathing new life into the theme of adulation and emulation in a fame-happy era." He has been a filmmaker, radio producer, musician, free-lance journalist, screenwriter, college professor, blogger, and fiction writing coach.
