Stated First Printing, SIGNED by the author (association copy), in both original dust jackets. Clean black paper-covered boards with gold author's name on cover, turquoise cloth spine with gold lettering. 1/16" tear to cloth at top spine edge. No bumping, sharp unworn corners; very slight fading from contact with paper jacket. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Clean black endpapers. On back of front fly leaf the author has inscribed: "October 1958 - To Kitty and to Moss with thanks, that in a world of stultifying specialization they manage to be charming and decorative and intelligent. - Alex King." 374 pages. Both jackets are clean and not price clipped; the first one (the conservative one) has slight edge wear and one tiny chip at upper spine corner, a few short closed edge tears; the second, with a wild illustration by the author and "NOTE: If this jacket (the author painted it) is too strong for you, take it off. There's a conservative jacket for conservative people underneath), also has some edge wear, small chips at top spine edge. Each now enclosed in removable mylar cover.
