Item description from seller
First Impression. Octavo (18cm); original photo-illustrated card wrappers; [6],7-190,[2]pp. This copy is from the library of Puerto Rican editor, translator, and literary critic Roberto Marquez, with his holograph name and extensive notes and markings throughout the text. Signed by Salkey on the title page, and inscribed by him to Marquez on the dedication page: "Roberto + Maddie / with love / Venceremos / Andrew / 10.4.1976." The Jamaican-Panamanian author's novel centered around a young Jamaican man who emigrates to London, and is drawn into the bohemian scene in Soho, where he is torn between an unfulfilling affair with his English landlady and his growing feelings toward a male friend. A warm inscription to Marquez, who would go on to be the founder and editor of the journal Caliban: A Journal of New World Thought and Writing. 85070.…
