About this Item

States First Edition on the copyright page with publisher's code"C_O"- March, 1939. The book is bound in brick red cloth with title and author in gilt on the spine. Spine has faded. Corners are sharp and the binding is square and firm. Top edge are dust dulled. There are notations and marginalia in the author's hand though out the book and the text is generally clean and unmarked. The author signed his name on the first free endpaper and beneath the signature it reads " corrected copy". The author was a poet and Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard University in the mid 1950's. He would have been teaching at the Chicago Theological Seminary when this work was published. He was the brother of Thornton Wilder.
