Add to basketDiscussion of "the current crisis in the consent of the governed"; Buchanan argues this principle is muddled by the corporate powers to which citizens must consent, which he believes must be reconsidered in economic & political terms. INSCRIBED by the author on the free endsheet: "To Bob From Scott"; Bob was Robert B. Livingston, perhaps neuroscientist & activist Robert Burr Livingston of San Diego, whose own signature is adjacent - the book was last purchased from a San Diego dealer in 2001, the year before that Livingston's death. Buchanan was a philosopher & reformer now best remembered as the cofounder of the Great Books liberal arts program at St. John's College in Annapolis. Hardcover, as pictured; the first edition, listing no later printings. Light wear to book, corners rubbed & lightly frayed, spine ends bumped, spine a bit faded . Text clean; xiii, blank, 236 pages; bibliography, index. Size: Small Octavo.
