331pp, engraved frontis portrait, green cloth with gilt lettering, facsimile signature of author at front cover, gilt lettering at spine, top edge gilt, pen - point sized ink spot (?) at cover on letter "O" of title, extremities worn, corner points worn, spine thumbed at ends, else bright and clean. Presentation copy, INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY AUTHOR TO BOOKMAN AND PUBLISHER JOSEPH McDONOUGH, "To my good friend Joseph McDonough / with best regards / Frederic Rowland Marvin." Small caricature portrait of McDonough added as a rear fly, with McDonough bookplate noted at front pastedown. LAID - IN IS AN AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED FROM THE AUTHOR to McDonough dated August 3, 1912, on letterhead from 537 Western Avenue, Albany, NY, that reads, Dear Mr. McDonough: I have / just heard of Mr. Rudder's (?) death ____ / ____. I do not know what word of / comfort I can write. I did not / know him, but very often I have / heard you speak of him or refer to / him. I want you to know that I / think of you in your sorrow, and / that you have my sympathy. / I go Monday to Boston, will be / there ten or twelve days, on my / return I shall go to New York / With sincere regards / Frederic Rowland Marvin. Includes the envelope with autograph name and address of McDonough at 73 Hudson Ave, Albany, New York. Very scarce.
