During the past five years Nuikki, a well- known Finnish photographic artist has given his black, quiet and sarcastic mind in the creedy hands of the commercial world, creating a remarkably comprehesive colourfull and surrealistic protographs from everyday happenings and objects. For Nuikki this "Commercial world" 's an unlimited playground where there are no players only viewers, who without any feelings of shame indulge in the endless cornucopia of the aesthetics of commercial photography. Nuikki wanted his "commercial" photographs to be looked at, not looked into, wanted their mystery to be confronted, not interpreted, seeins it as the revelation of the mystery latent in all things, revelation consummated as with the banal figure of a face, which became mysterious when accompanied to be by its reflection - throught presenting everyday things or beings in an alternative way - the way they appear in dreams? His impression is that you reduce the meaning (if meaning there be) of the surrealistc pictures to ideas that there was no point in representing directly. He thinks that such ways of understandins these photographs should be offered as examples of associations of deas which can be engendered by these pictures, but that these ideas, among countless other equally possible ones, are simply the sign of a mental activity which leaves the images that inspired them intact and irreducible until futher notice.
