First Edition. Hardback. Dust Jacket. 8vo. pp 334, frontis and 3 illus. Association copy and signed copy presented to Randolph S. Churchill and with Churchill's decorative bookplate (dogs at door of grand house) to both front and rear pastedowns). VG (spine slightly faded) in near VG price-cipped d.j., Inscribed by author on ffep, 'To Randolph/ from/ Charles/ to commemorate a most successful enterprise/ Christmas 1958'. From the library of Randolph Churchill. The inscription is intriguing, and could well be explained by the fact that in November-December 1958, Randolph Churchill, the only son of Sir Winston Churchill, published six articles in the 'Daily Express' about the Suez Crisis of 1956. Beatty, as de Lesseps' biographer, had special knowledge of the Suez Canal, and it seems that he had helped Churchill in his writing. The presentation date of Christmas 1958 ties in well with Churchill's recently published articles. Very good.
