Add to basketNew York: Knopf, 1988. First Edition. A fine copy in quarter-backed black cloth and brown boards with gilt spine lettering in a fine, pictorial dustwrapper with a light crease on the rear flap. Lessing here describes the life of a happy family with four happy children. Then, Harriet, the mother, gives birth to a baby who seems less than human. THe author demonstrates the beginning of the misery and suffering that this child brings to the whole family in this contemporary gothic horror story. Well-received by Lessing's wide readership. She has signed this copy on the title page.
