CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Charles Anderson, the book's author, was a trained lawyer who became an amateur historian after retiring from the law. REFERENCES: KRICK 8: "The premise forwarded by the wordy title page is elaborated with columns of statistics and enumerations. The volume is arranged chronologically, with rather loosely based statements of numbers involved in each battle, which fit Anderson's estimate of 'Southern Federals.' Anderson also presents an alphabetical listing of Southern Federals commanding brigades and larger units and other especially worthy Federals which hit his category--somewhat more than three hundred off them."
