New York:Harcourt Brace & Company. (1940). Stated 1st edition. 509pp. Hardcover sans dust jacket. Signed and inscibed by the author on the first free end-page. Red boards are soiled/faded at spine and for about an inch on spine edge of both front and rear cover. The binding is tight; hinges intact; and edge points still sharp. Internally, end-pages are age toned but otherwise the pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owners name penciled in on the top of the first free end-page with the authors inscription across the middle of the page. Inscription reads "To Ebbie Given in hope that he will live to see the better ordered world planned by the people in this book. from Edmund Wilson [dated] May 22, 1943.". Seller Inventory # 22018
