1st 1905 108pp Printed for private circulation by John Lane, The Bodley Head. Illustrated. Red boards with Japanese rising sun foiled in gilt. Boards quite faded but gilt intact except for blemish to on one of the sun's rays. Top edge gilt, rough cut page edges. Slight knocks to top and tail of spine and corners. Overall G+. Inscribed, signed and dated 1904 by the author on half title page. This work, translated by John Talbot Clifton (1868-1928), collects together "two or three books on fortune telling by swords" which Clifton discovered "while wandering in Japan." Short preface followed by 52 full page plates depicting sword idiosyncrasies and their divinatory meanings. Scarce.
