As described in Parr and Badger, fascinating documentary photos of the famous park in Greenwich Village which, In the 1960s, was the focal point of musicians and artists in New York. Watanabe captures the beginnings of the 'beat' generation, in a way somewhat comparable to Kitajima did in the early 1980s in Manhattan. Watanabe was born in 1928 in Tokyo and spent about two years in New York (1962-1964) .
