Alfred A. Knopf. New York. 1950. 611 pages. A first printing of the Book Club Edition with 1950 date on title page, and the copyright page; and no later printings noted. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, with the recipient's name matching the vintage bookplate just below it. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Book shows light soiling. Salter DJ shows minor light chipping along edges. No printed price on flap. Originally written in Yiddish, this is the Nobel recipient's first book published in English. Very Good/Very Good.
