She mentions how this book was not a suitable birthday present, but was 'a book everyone should read' and how she's 'bought and given away a lot of copies' with much praise of the book; signed lov Den. 1980s, Schell wrote a series of articles in The New Yorker (subsequently published in 1982 as The Fate of the Earth), which were instrumental in raising public awareness about the dangers of the nuclear arms race, and is regarded as a key document in the nuclear disarmament movement, a movement that Levertov was a vocal supporter of.
