Years after the death of Rose Partland, the Jerry Garcia-like figurehead at the center of the pop cultural phenomenon that the band and its colorful followers had become, Z returns to South Carolina, the land of his birth, to recover from the loss of his marriage, his best friend Brian, and worst of all, and sense of self or purpose--this, a crisis much worse than the loss of a famous rock star someone's never even known . . . right?

About the Author

James D. McCallister has worked as a media archivist, newspaper columnist, freelance journalist, small business owner, and now author: Novels include a coming of age story, King's Highway (Red Letter Press, 2007) and his 'rock & roll fable' Fellow Traveler (Muddy Ford Press, 2012). A third novel, an 'animal lover's Deliverance' called Dogs of Parsons Hollow, is currently under representation, and a screenplay, The Prognosticators, a comedy-drama about members of a small town prog-rock cover band struggling with mid-life issues, is also being shopped.

A two-time South Carolina Fiction Project awardee as well as a 2012 Faulkner-Wisdom and Saturday Evening Post short story finalist, McCallister lives in West Columbia, SC, with his wife Jenn and their beloved brood of a dozen cats, muses all.
