About this Item
Autograph postcard signed, in German, by Ferdinand von Zeppelin to Stuttgart publishers Levy & Müller thanking them for sending 6 copies of his book, 'Zeppelins Kampf und Sieg,' first published by them in 1908. Small duodecimo, original stamped envelope, illustrated withÂa photograph of the LZ 4 airship by Eduard Schwarz. In near fine condition with some toning to the postcard and envelope. Accompanied by an autograph postcard from publisher Eric Levy signed, in German, to Gertie Levy hoping to find her healthy, mentioning his having rested in Zürich. Small duodecimo, post stamped with a cancelled 20-centime 'Helvetia' featuring Wilhelm Tell, illustrated with a photograph of a Zeppelin airship in the sky over Zürich by Wilhelm Pleyer. In near fine condition. Ferdinand von Zeppelin was a pioneer in airship design and development, best known for his development of rigid airships, commonly known by his namesake as the zeppelin. His work laid the foundation for the use of airships in both civilian and military applications, with the first successful flight of a zeppelin occurring July 2, 1900. Despite facing financial and technical challenges, his dedication to the development of airships paved the way for the use of this technology in transportation, reconnaissance, and even weaponization during World War I.
