Light blue linen cloth, stamped in gold. 8vo. xx, 156 pp. Top edge gilt, fore-edge and tail untrimmed. Wove endpapers. Frontispiece, a photographic portrait of Pauline Johnson. One photographic plate of Chiefswood, E. Pauline Johnson's birthplace. Matches all first edition points of Linda Quirk's 2006 descriptive bibliography. Signed on the free front endpaper, 'Mrs. J. E. Wark | Sproat Lake | 1913'. Josephine Elizabeth Harris Wark (4 June 1866, Blaine, Washington - 22 December 1942, Victoria) ran Klitsa Lodge on Sproat Lake near Alberni on Vancouver Island from 1918 until her death. Cloth faded and worn, top of spine bumped with 0.5 cm tear, bottom of spine also bumped, corners frayed and pushed in, large diffuse stain on back cover. Interior with minor foxing. Good.
