Quarto (9 x 6"). [8], 274pp. Original illustrated dust-jacket over blue cloth, with gold lettering to spine and front cover. Front free endpaper inscribed and signed by the author. First edition of this anti-Nazi novel set against the "vivid background of Berlin, Frankfurt-on-Main, the Odenwald, Tel Aviv, and Ben Shemen. In this work, the author (himself a German refugee) sets in novelistic form an intense and realistic description of the years 1930 to 1935 in the lives of two students, Devorah Berg and Alexander Roth. Both are Germans and Jews." (From the Publishers). Dust-jacket with small abrasion to front cover, and tiny cut-out to head of spine. Slight creasing to upper margin of a few pages throughout.
