Octavo. [2], viii, [2], 147, [1] pp. First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by Richter. In publisher's decorative cloth binding designed by Dwiggins with dust jacket. Binding is very bright; contents clean; dust jacket is crisp but with some toning to the spine and the very edges of the perimeter; price intact on the front flap. This copy from the collection of California collector Ingle Barr with his bookplate on the front pastedown. Richter has penned a lengthy and interesting inscription to Barr on the front free endpaper, noting: "This the only book of mine seen by the author in the hands of a strange reader. Walking down a poor street in Reading, Pa, one day, a man passed me carrying the book unmistakably. It gave ma peculiar shock I can still faintly feel." A wonderful picture and emotion that Richter conveys in this inscription. And this on one of his earlier novels. Agner 43.21.
