Quarter cloth (with a paper title-label on the spine) and patterned papered boards; endpapers offset; pale foxing to the verso of the colour plates; minimal signs of age and use; an excellent copy with the dustwrapper a little rubbed, sunned, chipped and torn, housed in a later custom-made cloth chemise and quarter morocco slipcase (the leather unevenly sunned). Number 80 of 150 copies of this deluxe edition signed by the artist (with 50 copies reserved for sale in the United States). The illustrations were originally published in 'Punch' magazine; the colour plates feature verses by E.V. Knox. Milne writes in his introduction that the artist 'needs no introduction at my hands. Anybody who has heard of me has certainly heard of Shepard. Indeed our names have been associated on so many title pages that I am beginning to wonder which of us is which'.
