The Game of Thrones Series has been likened to Tolkien?s Lord of the Rings saga and T.H. White?s Once and Future King. Critics call this ?one of the best fantasy series ever written? (Denver Post). The books in the series have sold more than 15 million copies and have been translated into more than 20 languages. A Game of Thrones is the first of seven planned novels in A Song of Ice and Fire, an epic fantasy series by American author George R. R. Martin. It was first published in August 1996. The novel won the 1997 Locus Award, and was nominated for both the 1998 Nebula Award and the 1997 World Fantasy Award. The novella Blood of the Dragon, comprising the Daenerys Targaryen chapters from the novel, won the 1997 Hugo Award for Best Novella. In January 2011 the novel became a New York Times bestseller and reached #1 on the list in July 2011. The book is in fine condition with bright titles to the spine, and clean cloth. The book has sharp corners, one very tiny spine edge bump, and no edgewear. The binding is tight and square and still snaps shut when opened. The end papers are in perfect condition. Boldly SIGNED in red ink with a spectacular inscription by George R.R. Martin in the year of publication on the title page ?To Michael / May Your Summer Never End / George R.R. Martin, 9/26/96??. The outstanding foil jacket (which is extremely difficult to photograph) is in near fine condition with but one nick to tip of the rear flap corner fold. The dust jacket has a price of $21.95 on the inside front flap. A superb copy of the first book of this iconic series, boldly signed across the title page by George Martin.
