Add to basketClifford Odets based his screenplay for the 1936 American film starring Gary Cooper and Madeleine Carroll on this novel, which was unpublished at the time. The story concerns a mercenary who is lured in by a beautiful American girl while trying to keep arms from getting to a vicious warlord in mainland China. This copy is inscribed by Booth on a prefatory blank leaf. Octavo. Original black cloth binding, with red titles. Faint spot to the bottom edge. In the uncommon dust jacket, which is a bit browned along the extremities, with a half-inch chip to the spine head, a bit of nonarchival ink restoration, and some neat brown paper reinforcement to the verso; otherwise very good.
