Blue cloth covers with black lettering on the front cover and spine which is clean and unmarked. Covers exhibit light wear on corners, bottom edges and spine ends. Moderate soiling and shelf wear to covers. Protective clear mylar cover is in very good condition. Light yellowing and soiling to page ends. Moderate foxing to inside front and back covers, ffep's and bfep's. Inscribed by the author on the ffep. Text and the b&w photos and maps are yellowed due to age. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Hinges are tight. Written for the average visitor to the field "who wishes a description of the contest reduced to simplest terms, a selection of the romantic and dramatic incidents which abound, and an account of the extensive cemetery and park."
