Signed presentation from Goatley on the front endpaper: "To Rev. W.J. Toomer. God is with you! David Emmanuel Goatley. May 2000." It looks like Rev. Toomer has also written Goatley's name on the same page, along with his name and address in Danville, Va. Professor Goatley is a constructive theologian whose scholarship and practice is at the intersection of missiology, Black Theology, and leadership strategy. A globally recognized missiologist, he emphasizes cross-cultural experiential learning with indigenous communities to deepen understanding, broaden horizons, and strengthen Christian discipleship and leadership formation. In this book he examines the suffering of slavery and seeks a response to the question concerning where God is when the atrocities of human experience are beyond comprehension. The Rev. Willie James Toomer served as the pastor of Camp Grove Baptist Church and served as Pastor Emeritus until his death in 2019.
