His term as president is the longest in Vassar's history. The book is in very good condition. Binding is sound and square. Pages are bright and clean. Text block is clean and crisp; decorative blue speckle on top edge of text block. Blue boards with gold gilt on spine, embossedColumbia University Press emblem on front board. Spine sun-faded. Gilt in-tact. Boards show sings of wear; minor rubbing and fading, especially at corners. Back board has a few superficial scratches/scuffs. Pages lightly foxed; most evident on end papers. Ffep has inscription in blue ink. First page of Foreword has small penciled margin note: "g. Pres. H. N. MacCracken. 1 Apr. '46." Chapter 1 has blue-ink check marks beside paragraph starts through pg. 12. Otherwise no notes or highlighting.
