An anthology pieces chosen to emphasize the promotion of racial and ethnic good will, good citizenship and Americanization, and which celebrate the contributions of African-Americans, Jews and other immigrants from across Europe and Asia. These poems, plays, and prose selections were chosen by Schauffler and Paulmier, in part, for the observance of Brotherhood Week, George Washington Carver Day, Negro History Week, I Am an American Citizen Day, and Good Will Day. The authors include George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Booker T. Washington, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Thomas Wolfe, Theodore Roosevelt, James Russell Lowell, William Cullen Bryant, John Greenlieaf Whittier, Melvin Tolson, Mary Austin, Angelo Patri, Edmud Bok, Oscar Leonard, George Papashvily, and several others. The editors were Robert Haven Schauffler (1879-1964), an American writer, poet, biographer, Olympic tennis player, and decorated veteran of the First World War, and Hilah Paulmier (1885-1965), a librarian at the New York Public Library between 1911 and 1945 and the author of eight books on history.
