Doubleday & Co., 1961, First Edition, 8vo., 288 pages. Book bound in a three quarter green leather with leather corners. Five raised bands on spine, with title and author name in gilt on spine, top edge gilt. Spine has faded to a uniform blue, front hinge tender but holding with worn edge else book good condition. Book from the library of Margaret Kelly Hughes (known as Mardi), wife of John Chambers Hughes the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO 1953-1955. Margaret Hughes lived in France during WWII & volunteered to help French prisoners of war held in Meaux. She was decorated 3 times by the French Government for her service to the country & wrote "Les Lauriers Sont Coupes" about her experiences during the war. Book is inscribed to Mrs. John C. Hughes signed by author and dated on front endpage. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
