THIS WAS KOONTZ'S FIRST HARDCOVER FICTION BOOK WRITTEN UNDER HIS OWN NAME. THIS WAS A REVIEW COPY - INCLUDED IN THE BOOK IS THE NEWSPAPER CUT-OUT OF THE REVIEW (FROM THE HARRISBURG INDEPENDENT PRESS - WHICH IS WHERE KOONTZ WENT TO COLLEGE AND CLEARLY THE REVIEWER KNEW KOONTZ PERSONALLY), THE REVIEWER (DICK SASSAMAN) THEN GIFTED THIS REVIEW BOOK LATER THAT SAME YEAR (CHRISTMAS 1973) PER THE GIFT INSCRIPTION ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. FLAT SIGNED (NOT INSCRIBED TO A PERSON) ON THE PRE-TITLE PAGE BY DEAN KOONTZ. Book has no creased page corners, no foxing to pages or endpapers, yellow top stain is nice without fading or drop spots, barest hint of age darkening/dust soiling to outer page edges (no foxing), no hinge splits, clean endpapers with no scotch tape residue marks, no former owner's markings or used bookstore stamps inside, no wear to board edges, hint of wear to corners, no wear to spine tips, no bumped board corners. Dust jacket has tiny nick losses at spine tip corners otherwise no chipping, tearing or creasing, wear to spine tips, hint of wear to front flap crease (nick losses at flap crease corners), no age yellowing (very common defect with this all-white dust jacket), hint of dust soiling/faint foxing to rear panel, almost no color rubbing (common defect with this DJ as there was no glossy covering applied at time of manufacture), otherwise no soiling or staining, hint of edge wear. Overall a FINE- book in VG/VG+ condition dust jacket (not price clipped) of a rare Dean Koontz first printing hardcover book AND A SIGNED (AND REVIEW COPY) BY DEAN KOONTZ. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Dean Koontz 1st printing hardcover/paperback/magazine appearances up for sale.
