Very Good+; minor rubbing/bumping to extremities; spine a little faded; cloth a little rubbed/scuffed in places; a little tanning to endpapers; else Fine. Hinges sound, spine straight, pages clean and bright except as noted. No dust jacket. Presumed First Edition. Ellen Coit Brown Elliott (1860-1957) was born and raised in New York and married Orrin L. Elliott, the first registrar at Stanford University. From her Introduction: "From the opening [of Stanford U.], October 1, 1891, the record is here of the informal family and social life of the University community, a tale of half a century, this also being my own story, for we came West with Dr. Jordan three months before the University's opening and have taken part in the campus life ever since." This copy signed below portrait frontispiece: "Very truly yours, Ellen Coit Elliott." The front pastedown bears the bookplate of Karl G[ustav] Rendtorff (1887-1996) who was an alumnus and a faculty member at Stanford, and a scholar of German literature. Seller Inventory # 730
