A signed limited edition work featuring the beautiful illustrations of Helen Allingham, alongside a biography and descriptions. The first edition de luxe. Limited to 750 copies, of which this is number 311. Signed by the illustrator to the limitations page. In the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. With a photograph frontispiece, and eighty full-page colour plates, from the paintings of Helen Allingham, depicting idyllic rural scenes and family life in England. Collated complete. The frontispiece is loose but present. Helen Allingham (1848-1926) was a British watercolourist and illustrator from the Victorian era. She contributed illustrations to a range of periodicals including 'The Graphic' newspaper, and made artwork for the 1874 serialisation of Thomas Hardy's 'Far from the Madding Crowd'. With a biography of Allingham, and descriptions by Marcus B. Huish. Marcus Bourne Huish (1843-1921) was an English barrister, writer, and art dealer. He was the editor of 'The Art Journal' from 1881 to 1892 and was also the first Managing Director the Fine Art Society. The half title page is present. In the publishers original pictorial cloth binding. Externally, smart with some shelf wear to the extremities. Spine is darkened. Bumping to the spine, and upper boards. Marks to the boards and spine. Hinges strained but still firm. Some light offsetting to the free endpapers. Spotting to the free endpapers. Discreet blindstamp for 'Neatham Mill Library', to the rear free endpaper. Internally, the frontispiece is loose but otherwise firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
