About this Item
Here is the First Edition of "Letters to Jane" by esteemed poet Hayden Carruth. The book is inscribed and signed by Joe-Anne Carruth, Hayden's wife. The book, a hardcover with color pictorial dust-jacket was published in 2004 by Ausable Press in Keene, New York. The rear flap of the jacket has a black-and-white photograph of Hayden Carruth, near the end of his life.
From the front flap of the jacket : "The poet Jane Kenyon earned wide acclaim for her clear, vivid, deeply spiritual lyrics, many of them written in the face of her own mortality. During the years of her dying, Hayden Carruth's faithful correspondence, collected here, gives us rare insight into the inner life of a major poet as he confronts the loss of a dear friend. Kind, consoling,, passionate, and at times wickedly funny, these letters transcend the personal, offering an extended meditation on age and death, and on the art of poetry."
Joe-Anne McLaughlin Carruth, also a recognized poet, inscribed and signed the book on the title page thusly : " For Dr. Matthews, With appreciation for all your good work. All best Joe Anne Carruth 7/29/09 Utica, NY" (See the picture we have provided)
