2 copies of this book one signed and with the authors own bookplate by artist Michael Ayrton. this is illustrated with woodcuts and photographs. The condition of this copy is VG+ to fine. The 2nd copy is an Uncorrected Proof with no photographs, the condition is similar but the wrapper which is larger than the book is chipped at bottom edge and has an overlap at top. there are also blank leaves for the author to make corrections, which he has on several pages and printed on a different paper. At the end of this copy he has written "I am reconciled to the fact that some unthinking ones in both our countries may feel that I am a red or a fascist. I shall not lose any sleep over that". Both nice copies. *The writer was a Ballet writer and journalist, he was manager at the Sadler's Wells Ballet School, married to the sister of Alicia Markova (Vivienne). This came from other works we have and have listed earlier from their personal library. He wrote this after visiting to judge a ballet contest with Ulanova and fell in love with the place. He wrote one other travel book that was a worldwide best-seller "Waltzing Matilda" (2 books in this lot). Postage is offered at the normal rate. A good saving for any buyer.…

Store description
We are a small, single-owner business. We have been operating on and off since 1977 and our stock is varied, leaning towards antiquarian and 19th century with the addition of original aquatint and lithographic, or woodcut engravings. Also maps and Ephemera - in fact, anything interesting on paper really. We have in stock every item we list. We do not use stock photographs, but photograph each item individually. We very rarely use "fine" or "mint" as a description, mainly due to the age and the fact that 99.9% of what we sell has been pre-owned and therefor Fine would not be a term for a book we sell despite its fine-like appearance. We always take items back unreservedly if not in the condition as described. We always try to describe fully.…
