Gilt titled spine on blue cloth with gilt decoration. First Edition. Dust Jacket as issued. CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Fine. Interior is clean, no marks, tight. DJ is lightly rubbed and worn with small tears and chips, now in mylar sleeve. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: Fine history of the Rhode Island regiments in the Civil War written by a WWI & WWII combat veteran and son of Rhode Island. Brigadier General Harold Barker enlisted in the Rhode Island National Guard in 1913 and was commissioned in 1915. In 1916 he served on the Mexican border. He served in WWI as the commander of Battery "A," 103rd Field Artillary and participated in the campaigns of Chemin-des-Dames, Toul, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1937 and served in WWII commanding initially the 68 Field Artilery Brigade and then the 43rd Infantry Division Artillery. He was in many campaigns including, Guadalcanal, New Georgia, New Guinea and Luzon. His wide experience as an artillery officer allows him a specialized point of view as he describes the contributions of the Rhode Island regiments and those well know Rhode Island artillery units.
