Alan Lee is one of the most respected illustrators of Tolkien works. His illustrations have featured in many editions of Tolkien books, and his art helped to inspire Peter Jackson, who hired Lee to work as a concept artist on The Lord of The Rings and Hobbit films, earning Lee an Academy Award along the way. Jackson stated of Lee "His art captured what I hoped to capture with the films". The Hobbit Sketchbook is filled with stunning artworks and sketches throughout, featuring early concept pieces and brand new sketches created for this book, all beautifully presented with additional text by the artist providing background and insights into his thought process.
