Add to basketA nice association copy, inscribed in the year of publication on the half-title page: "For Don, from his Dad -- Hal Borland, 1969." Don is Donal Borland, his second of three sons. A book that collects "non-political" editorials about country life that originally appeared inThe Progressivefrom 1964-1968, all of them about or touching upon the seasons. Uncommon signed. Hal Borland (see his NYT obit) was a prominent mid-century nature writer who grew up in Colorado and ended up writing especially about rural life and ecology in Connecticut by way time working in publishing in New York City. He won the John Burroughs Medal for natural history writing in 1968 forHill CountryHarvest, and his papers areheld at Yale's Beinecke Libraryalong with those of his second wife, the writer Barbara Dodge Borland. He is known especially for his attention to phenology and the seasons, a passion of so many nature writers. A near fine book with a little sunning to board edges and a touch of rubbing to spine ends. In a very good plus jacket with some light wear to corners and spine ends.
