At the center of the story is the bizarre high level and bloody internal Mafia feud centering on machinations by Joe Bananas that include a fake kidnapping/18-month hibernation. The post-hibernation hot phase of the feud is remembered as "The Bananas War." Inscribed by Gay Talese to a previous owner on a front endpaper. Talese also dated the inscription in the year of publication. 526 pages, illustrated. The book has a bit of mustiness and light edge wear. The dust jacket has edge wear and some creasing on the front flap.
