About this Item
Dustwrapper has creasing and tears to the edges, and a three-inch part is torn away at the bottom edge from the spine to half-way along the front panel. Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of brown boards, some yellowing to the pages and foxing to outer pages, binding starting to come apart at pp32-33, but otherwise a not too bad copy of this slim hard-cover book. No publication date given but in the text the author mentions it being four years after the start of WW2, so probably 1944 or 45. The author's account of the building of the family cottage "Sentosa" somewhere on the upper Thames (exact location is not given) from purchasing the half-acre plot in 1934 onwards. Total cost was £316 8s 6d. Signed and inscribed by the author on f/ep "Love to Gwen & Arnold Walker from Marjorie Wentworth Manley". Dustwrapper illustration by Shirley Wentworth Manley, daughter of the author. 66pp, 27 b&w illustrations, diagrams of house plan and garden layout. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
