About this Item
8vo 8" - 9" tall; 128 pages; [SIGNED ith MLS] 1952 J. B. Lippincott. HC/DJ 1st edition. Prior ownership of Jackson Dykman with his armorial bookplate to the front pastedown. His manuscript post card sized "letter" on heavy card stock with "White Acre" address header is dated Oct 29, 1952 and includes his observations on the otherworldly aspects of the book. Laid in at rear is Jenks manuscript reply on two leaves, dated 3 Nov 1952 in which he responds to Dykman's observations and exchanges friendly remarks. Snugly bound copy is clean and neat; handsomely illustrated with b&w drawings by Shenton. Mild mottling to the cloth boards; tape ghosts to the front and rear endpages where the owner and author manuscript letters were once anchored. Dust jacket bright and neat with just trace fading at spine. Unusual to find both a letter to author and the author's reply letter, and an intriguing question too of how they came to both be in presence. An unusual novel using fox-hinting as a premise for other concerns. Generally uncommon, especially so in condition and more so with the author's thoughts expressed in a signed letter. VG/VG+; Signed by Author. Seller Inventory # 39973
