Published in 1974 by Grossman Publishers as part of the ICP Library of Photographers. According to Cornell Capa, general editor of the series, Vishniac ".has been a passionate and compassionate observer of life for most of his 76 years. As one of the world's foremost photographers of microscopic life, his contribution to our understanding of the relationship of nature, man, and art through his work in still photographs and films is unparalleled. His photographs of Jewish communities of Eastern Europe , made in 1938 on the eve of World War II, constitute the last pictorial record of a unique world which vanished only one year later." 98 photographs, 20 in color, highlighting both aspects of Vishniac's oeuvre. 96 pages, 7.5" x 8.75". Inscribed by Vishniac (and his wife Edith, though likely in his hand) on the front free endpaper. Minor rubbing and bumping to dj, with light soiling to back cover.
