Add to basketNew York: Random House, 1931. Limited Edition of 400 copies, of which this is number 81, signed by Faulkner on colophon at back. Octavo (22.5cm); 17pp. Red marbled paper-covered boards with white title card to front. Boards rubbed on edges and spine. Slight bump to bottom edge of spine. Pages clean and unmarked. Binding tight. A very good copy. Faulkner's first publication with Random House. The story was rejected seven times by various magazine editors before finding a home there, but the limited copy sold out well ahead of publication. A small note in a 1931 issue of The Brooklyn Citizen notes that "Mr. Faulkner wrote this story while visiting in New York, and the publishers are rushing the book through for pre-Christmas delivery." The story involves a woman who leaves her husband and children for a younger man, and anticipates the love story in The Wild Palms (If I Forget Thee, Jerusalem] eight years later. Petersen A10, Daniel p. 12-13.
