8vo. Original black cloth, gilt-lettered on spine; publisher's dust jacket. First printing of the poet's first book. Presentation copy inscribed by Nemerov to Robert Penn Warren on the front free endpaper: "For Robert Penn Warren, / with best wishes, / Howard Nemerov / Madison, Conn. / 11 July 1947." A WONDERFUL ASSOCIATION COPY, inscribed by the third poet laureate of the United States to the second. Touch of wear to cloth extremities; gilt on spine partially rubbed away; hinges a little toned. Dust jacket unclipped (priced "$2.00"), with spine panel and flap folds lightly toned. Provenance: Robert Penn Warren (presentation inscription). From the library of noted book collector William A.
