Bill Squires coached at Boston College for a long time in 60 s and 70 s plus started a small running club of (his words not mine) "running bums". He defined his group as "a bunch of people who had no talent but just loved to hit the pavement.". In 1979 this group did something truly amazing that will most likely never be done again; his group of "running bums" put four athletes in the top 10 of the Boston marathon. Bill Rodgers won in 2:09, Bob Hodge was 3rd, Randy Thomas was 8th and Dick Mahoney was 10th. This training book is inscribed by Squires: "To gen Thanks for the Long Run the Best always".
