About this Item
Frances Willard. A Great Mother. Chicago: The Woman's Temperance Publishing Association, 1894. Signed and inscribed: "To my dear Sister Mrs. Bishop Eastburn with [?] love from Francis Willard, Chicago Illinois 1897 A souvenir of our happy meeting by the Sea!" Large and bold writing by Willard that takes up nearly half the page. Original grey cloth boards with silver titles and decorated cover, 297 pages, measuring 6 in x 8.5 in. First edition. Willard would pass just one year later, making this a very special inscribed copy to her sister. In "A Great Mother", Willard uses her mother's life as an ideal for women everywhere and an example of why mothers like her own are so vital to society. Cover lightly shelfworn and corners bumped, title faded on spine, Inscribed front free endpaper detached but taped to hinge. Dampstain and some light wrinkling to first 7 leaves along bottom edge, but does not obscure the text. Overall in good condition. Seller Inventory # 17815
