First editions, volume one is 1815, volume two is 1817, volume three and four are 1826. Thirty engraved plates some of which are hand-coloured. Also three page handwritten letter from William Spence glued into the front of volume one. Two engraved portraits of the author's. Plates foxed, heavy in some places. Contents very lightly foxed and generally very clean. Bound in a contemporary half leather which has been rebacked at a later date with red cloth, this has become split and five boards are detached. Brown paper covered boards. Leather corners are heavily frayed and rubbed. Still looks okay externally but it is externally poor. Rare complete as all first editions and with all four volumes.
