This copy has been inscribed by the author to the front free endpaper, dedicating it to H.M. Budgett (1882-1951), Master of Hounds and author of a comprehensive treatise on olfactory tracking, Hunting by Scent, which Hatfield declares himself a fan of in the inscription. Henry Stafford Hatfield (1880 1966) was himself a chemist, broadcaster and inventor, and the author of several books on science, automatons and inventions. A scarce first printing of this title (later to be published by Pelicanin1948). Minor foxing, small ink stamp to head of front free endpaper; jacket slightly faded at spine, with some wear to spine ends and tear with minor loss to upper joint.
