Synopsis

Ivver Sen is Cumbrian dialect for ever since.

The title is a direct reference to the many years that hill farming has existed in the Lake District, in much the same way - apart from tractors replacing horses and other significant changes - since the early Norse settlers first arrived in the region.

The book is about the people who have lived and worked the land over the years and those who cling on to their fell-farming heritage to this day.

It relates the fascinating stories of real Lakeland people and their lives and times, including brother and sister Johnny and Betty Richardson who spent an idyllic childhood at Watendlath in the early 1930s. It also goes on to tell the dramatic story of Blencathra huntsman Johnny who was captured at Tobruk in 1941 and escaped from German Prisoner of War camps in Italy to be pursued relentlessly by the Nazis across the Apennine mountain range. After being recaptured twice he eventually made good his escape with the help of an Italian family.

Other characters featured in the book include the legendary fell runner and farmer Joss Naylor, Jean and Derick Wilson, Dennis Monkhouse, Ronnie Cape, Barry Todhunter, Jonny Birkett, Skelt Robinson, Glenn Tubman, Victor Brownlee, Tommy Graves, Geordie Hutton and many others.

Every chapter tells a different story and provides a moving, informative, entertaining and, at times, humorous account of the farming way of life in Lakeland. It is rich in nostalgia but also voices opinions on hill farming today.
In addition to Keith Bowen's superb pastel drawings there are also evocative, previously unpublished, images from the past set against the brilliant modern day photography by Val Corbett of the timeless fells, lakes and rivers that provide the backcloth for the stories of a very special breed of people; a people who are fast disappearing from the land on which they have lived and worked down the centuries.

3 Delivery
3.1 Please note that timescales for delivery and delivery charges will vary depending on the service selected and your address. Please allow for extra time for international deliveries.
3.2 We will use reasonable endeavours to fulfil your order by the estimated delivery date. If we are unable to meet the estimated delivery date (where there is an Event Outside Our Control for example), we will contact you with a revised estimated delivery date.
3.3 Delivery will be completed when we deliver the Products to the address you gave us. We shall not be liable for delays or other disadvantages to the Customer, which result from an incorrect address being supplied at the time of order.
3.4 If no one is available at your address to take delivery, the carrier should either leave you a note that the Products are being held securely by the carrier, in which case, please contact the carrier in the manner provided on the undelivered note to rearrange delivery, or the Products may be left by our carrier with a neighbour or elsewhere in a discreet and secure place which should be notified to you by the carrier at the time of delivery.
3.5 If we are not able to deliver the whole of your order at one time due to the size of the order, we may deliver the order in instalments. We will not charge you extra delivery costs for this. However, if you ask us to deliver your order in instalments, we may charge you extra delivery costs. Each instalment shall constitute a separate contract governed by these Terms. If we are late delivering an instalment or one instalment is faulty, that will not entitle you to cancel any other instalment.
3.6 The Products will be your responsibility from the completion of delivery.
3.7 You will own the Products only once we have received payment in full, including all applicable delivery charges for the full order made by you.

4 International delivery
4.1 We deliver to most countries in the world. However, there are delays associated with delivery outside of the UK that are beyond our control.
4.2 All overseas deliveries will be sent fully insured. This cost will be borne by you.
4.3 If you order Products from us for delivery to an International Delivery Destination, your order may be subject to import duties and taxes which are applied when the delivery reaches that destination. Please note that we have no control over these charges, and we cannot predict their amount.
