First edition (as stated upon copyright page) SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. xviii, 556 pages. Hardcover. Dust jacket lightly rubbed; several tears, shallow chipping, and scuffs/nicks at edges; front flap's top corner is price-clipped; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Dark red cloth spine; reddish-purple boards. Dark gray top edge; a few small stains to text block's fore-edge with a few leaves fractionally affected at margins. Past owner's ink signature at top of front free endpaper; owner's three-line Christmas 1959 ink inscription on front flyleaf. Light gray endpapers with front endpapers having map illustration "Theater of Operations in the East 1861-1865" and rear endpapers having map illustration "Theater of Operations in the West 1861-1865." Author's ink signature "Hudson Strode" upon the half-title page; interior leaves are otherwise clean. Binding retains some crispness.
