Pale green dust jacket soiled and toned; rear panel creased/wrinkled; small chip to spine heel with other edge nicks. Red cloth. Author's four-line ink inscription "To | Bernice Finger | With warmest regards | Dorothy Rogers" upon the front free endpaper; inscribee Dr. Bernice Rogers Finger (1912-1993) was a longtime professor of Health and Physical Education at the University of Montevallo (Alabama). Top corners of pages 37-38, 43-44, 103-104, and 111-112 creased from past fold-downs; interior leaves are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. With four leaves of unpaged b/w plates (between pages 148-149 and unpaged frontispiece map plus five b/w maps amongst text. Professor Dorothy Rogers (Dot Rogers) recounts her journey through Africa with travelling companion and fellow State University of New York, Teacher's College, Oswego (SUNY Oswego) professor Louise Ostberg. Their six month, 25,000 mile trek started from "Algiers and thence, via the Sahara Desert and Congo jungles, to the southern tip of Africa . . . [rounding] the bottom of the continent, turned north to Cairo, and completed the circuit by following the Barbary Coast along the Mediterranean.".
